 "Handy li'l things!" 2010-03-09
By Cheryl Ann (Texas)
I found a pair of these at Tuesday Morning recently and bought them on a whim (for much less;). I like the color of blue but since I saw them before the purchase, I knew what I was getting in that regard. Buying online is always a risk on color, monitors and descriptions don't communicate accurately.

And of course, I saw the size. To be fair, the size should be listed in the description. They are wonderful for what I wanted. I have serious arthritis in my hands and have a lot of trouble opening jars and bottles. These work great for that because they have just enough flexibility. They are also just the right size to use to handle removing a hot stoneware bowl from the microwave and a hot pan from the toaster oven.

I am buying at least two more pairs for myself and some for gifts. Even would be willing to pay more and take a color that may not match in my kitchen. I will keep them in different locations around the kitchen because I will use them often.

They are called mini, but I did not expect them to be so tiny. Way too small for potholder, or much of anything besides a coaster.

By Nataly (USA)
I just love these mini cool tools from Le Creuset. Their quality is great and they are very handy around the kitchen. I use them as coasters and potholders. I am happy with their color because it perfectly matches my stoneware pieces in Caribbean.

Highly recommend.

I was very disappointed with the color of the product. Instead of the sky blue color as shown, it was a faded old looking light blue.

"One invention that is actually for the better." 2010-01-06
By JC (USA)
These are durable, versatile, easy to clean, and functional. I'll never go back to the cloth potholders.

"Cool answer for hot produce" 2009-09-06
By KBL
I purchased the Le Creuset rectangular silicone "Cool Tool" to use with my 3.5 qt. oval Le Creuset pot. It fits perfectly under the oval size pot. I have a several coolers, a red round one for my round red 5 qt. pot, etc.). It makes it easy for the kids to pick the right size cooler for the pot. I also sometimes use the round size coolers as pot holders. The rectangular one can also be used under a 5 qt. oval pot, but the ends of the pan will not be resting on the cooler. You will need to use two coolers side by side for really large oval size pots.

I use them as hotplates on table and countertop (Corian). Lightweight, easy to clean and easy to store.

"Nice, but much smaller than I thought it would be." 2009-06-19
By Nice Lady (Alaska)
Practical for the smallest pot only. They really should post the dimension. Pricey for such a small item.

Update: Having this item in the kitchen for a few months has shown just how practical this item can be. It is sturdy, fits the hand well, nice for resting something hot. Its true utility, however, may be as a great & easy way to open that stubborn jar or other container. It has held up extremely well & is very sturdy. The ribbed texture makes it so useful. It is a very thick rubber & actually is worth the price. Still looks new despite almost daily use.

 "several uses" 2009-01-17
By Imo Gene (USA)
We use these to cover our glass stovetop to keep our cats from being burned after cooking. They are also useful for placing hot items from the stove/oven onto the countertop and for grabbing hot items when the oven mit isn't handy. We have two colors, one for accent.

Very useful in the kitchen !

 "Get a Grip!" 2008-03-27
By L. T. Beasimer (Dallas, TX)
Like much of the Le Creuset line, these dishwasher safe round silicone hot pads have multiple uses. Covered with ridges they make excellent trivets for resting hot pots and pans on while allowing for air flow. The ridges also make these perfect to set eggs on so they don't roll off the counter. They are firm enough to use as a fan when a little air movement would come in handy. Combined with the ridges, they are flexible enough for opening jars and bending/gripping around medium to large handles.

The only drawback is that they don't work well with smaller sized handles. This makes using these pads with other Le Creuset product like the pate terrine or the au gratins pretty much useless when it comes to grabbing and moving them.

PROS:

Useful and versatile

Sturdy

Heat resistant

Dishwasher safe

CONS:

Cannot effectively grab smaller sized handles

 "Le Creuset Cool Tool" 2009-10-21
By E. Rougas
The product shiiped nicely from Amazon, i.e. on-time and packed well. I use it for hot pots and pans and this size works well. I really like the cheerful yellow color. It's nice and bright! I've also used it to open jars, and it does a good job along with some elbow grease.

 "Cool Tool" 2009-09-24
By Fishychips (San Francisco, CA USA)
Having gotten these, I found them attractive and useful, but... they are not sufficiently thick enough to hold a hot handle to a heavy pan. I read where some found them to make great hot pads. Unbeknownst to me, my cool pad stuck to the bottom of a hot pan which I then put on the stove over a flame. These are heat resistant to an extent, but aren't fire resistant and yes, silicone reverts back to sand when heated! So I would recommend taking some care in use.

I love these. There are so many uses for these things I never even thought of. They withstand high temperatures and match the Le Creuset kiwi products really well. I am planning on getting more for myself and maybe even some more more x-mas gifts!

I love these silicone baking products. We use these hotpads to cover our glasstop range after one of our cats jumped on one of the warm burners. Keep your cats safe in the kitchen !!

 "Handy hand saver" 2009-11-08
By Concerned Consumer
An absolute necessity for cast iron cooking. Works great with the Le Creuset, of course, but is also fantastic with Lodge pans (I have 8, 10 & 12"). I've found that it is actually a little tighter on my Le Creuset handles than Lodge. To me, the most practical aspect of a silicone handle sleeve is the fact that I can leave it on without worry while scrubbing the warm pan. I have a Lodge cloth holder, but with that I have to be much more careful to avoid getting it wet. Not that water hurts the cloth holder, but water does 2 things to the cloth - it takes a while to dry, but most importantly it loses all of its insulating capacity. Neither is an issue at all with silicone, and unlike cloth, cleaning this little item is as simple as tossing it into the dishwater (or dishwasher), much easier than having to wash a cloth holder in the laundry. So to me, the silicone has major advantages over the cloth holder; I have two of these. I will note, however, that while on the stove the handle, as another reviewer said, does get pretty warm. It absolutely protects you from accidental burns, and I can certainly move the pan, but I find it a bit uncomfortable (hot) to actually fully pick up a food-filled pan and move it without using an additional pot holder. Someone else said something about leaving it on the pan in the oven. It makes absolutely NO sense to leave it on! If you put any object, silicone or not, into a 400 degree oven, it's going to warm up to 400 degrees!!! Put the pan in the oven, take off the handle sleeve, then when you go back to take it out, slip the (cool) handle sleeve back on. Now it will work as intended - as an INSULATOR! Four stars because of the need for an extra holder after the pan's been on the stove a while, and it's just a bit tight. Otherwise, perfect. Happy cooking!

Wonderful for stainless pan handles! Can cook on gas stove and grab the handle-not hot-good grip!

"Good but coudl be better fit!" 2009-11-01
By Annmarie Nguyen (Washington DC / Seattle WA)
It's a great product but could fit a bit more snugly around my cast iron pan. Very useful though!

 "Mine didn't survive" 2009-09-25
By Art (Kingston, WA)
This is a must have for on-the-stove Le Creuset cast iron pans. It fits perfectly and works most of the time. However, it can get too hot to handle at times. Still, it's much better than accidentally grabbing a bare handle and burning yourself. I had to knock 1 star off because where mine meets the edge of the cooking area, it turned white and started tearing.

Maybe the heat that escapes the sides of the pan is doing this. I have a gas viking range with tons of BTU output. But it still seems like it should have held up better.

That said, the fit and function is such that I will be buying replacements as needed.
