 "wonderfully sturdy silicone spatula" 2010-03-04
By K. Pinsley (montclair, nj)
not flimsy/bendy like some silicone spatulas -- works great on heavy and sticky batters and doughs.

 "Chip away..." 2010-02-01
By rytemama (United States)
Loved the color of this spatula, and had high hopes when I received it... BUT alas- the love affair came to an abrupt halt when I noticed it the silicone was chipping on the sides- yikes! I don't want that in my food~ so this ended up in the trash.

Love the color -- only thing I don't care for is that the handle is pretty big around -- takes up more room than the Le Cruset brand of spoon spatula -- other than that nice quality product

 "I love it" 2009-03-19
By LHM (Bellingham, WA United States)
I love this spatula. I keep it in my baking kit for culinary school and use it all the time. The beechwood handle feels good in my hand. I have several of the Mario Batali products in penne (yellow) color. They are very cute and easy to spot as mine.

 "Love this!!!" 2008-11-16
By Love to Cook (California)
I wrote the same review with a different color item- I love this spatula so much I bought two. Here's my review:

I have several spatulas. I didn't realize before it was an addiction, but I guess it is :-) I love this one, because it is not as flexible at the tip. I make tomago using a non stick tomago pan, and I really need a stiff spatula to roll the tomago back and forth as I make it in the pan. This spatula is perfect for that! And it's nice for other things too, but I cannot tell you how long I looked for a thin, yet stiff, turner. Clearly we are all looking for different things in our spatulas, but this is my "go to" spatula for non-stick pans.

 "way too flexible" 2009-09-11
By L. ADAMIAN (NYC)
This flipper bends too easily so you can't get enough under the food you want to flip. I was disappointed. Have to try another one.

 "Wonderful!" 2009-08-02

I love this turner! It is my favorite in the drawer; especially to flip eggs. It is very heat resistant and washes well on the top shelf of my dishwasher. I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Unlike conventional basting brushes that never quite come clean, this professional-quality kitchen tool features patent-pending silicone bristles that will never melt, shed, fray, or stain. The basting brush resists heat up to 500 degrees F, and its length provides extra reach over hot coals or into an oven for basting. Channels in the bristle design hold more sauce and capture all marinade ingredients--great for sauces with herbs. For added convenience, the tool's soft-grip handle with a contoured thumb groove fits comfortably in the hand, while a hole at one end facilitates hanging for storage.

 "awesome spatula" 2009-04-26
By Stacey Triplett (Florence, AL)
I love this spatula! It is a beautiful color and works great on sandwiches, paninis or pancakes. It's a great price too! Well worth it for this purchase!

"Still better than a narrow turner" 2007-02-14
By B. Morgan (Centralia, WA)
I agree with the other reviewer, mine has become slightly more curved over the few months that I've had it. It's not dishwashed, I don't leave it in a hot pan, and rarely left it "face down" on the counter because I'm weird about cross contamination. The curve of the turner is more pronounced than it was when I bought it, but it's still better for flipping than my narrow turners are. Especially my good sized pancakes, no run off on the sides from sagging over the edges of a narrow turner. I still recommend this turner. And the colors are great.

 "Great!" 2009-09-09
By Sweetpotato (Western NY USA)
I love that this one is a bit more narrow than some others. I use it quite a lot and love the thumb slot! I'd buy another.

 "too narrow" 2009-03-09
By Clayton Shaw
Good quality but be aware that the paddle is narrower than it looks in the picture. Maybe 2 inches wide?? and so not useful for stirring risotto or much of anything else. Would have returned it but between the cost and hassle, I didn't. It's handsome, well made and useless.

"Good for cooking, controlling brats and occupying dogs. Love this Risotto Paddle" 2009-02-01
By Wood Wren (U.S.A.)
I use a lot of wooden kitchen implements; actually have dozens of them. this is a very handy paddle which I use for multiple functions. It does not scratch the pans I use it in or leave "metal" markings on my mixing bowls. It is completely dishwasher save. I have never hit a child in my life, but my nieces and nephews do not know this and they are insufferable little brats at times. All I have to do is pick this one up, glare at the silently, they mind somewhat better. It does not last long and I fear that it will not be much longer until they figure out that I am a complete phony. I am not sure what I will do with the little creatures then. As a side note, I noted another reviewer had a problem with their dog eating their one risotto paddle. I have lost two that way. What is it with dogs and wooden paddles? They don't actually eat the things, they just chew them up!

"13-Inch 'Risotto Paddle' is my Right Hand in the Kitchen" 2008-08-02
By MedIT
Pros(+)

- Very useful

- Very well built

- Good size

Cons (-)

- Unnecessary branding

Verdict

Buy it, but use it for more than making risotto.

Long form

This is a wonderful tool. I don't think I've ever used it to make risotto, but I've used it for just about everything else. I got mine from a kitchen supply store after breaking a similar (but lower quality) tool. I have no fear of ever breaking this one. Mine's about two years old and still going strong. The build quality is much higher than the average wooden kitchen utensil. Of all the things that typically live in a tangled canister on the counter this is the one I wouldn't want to be without.

When I found it listed on Amazon I was first surprised to find that was marketed for single purpose when it has so many uses, and then surprised to find that it is 13' long. Thirteen inches sounded huge; however, after bit of measuring I found that 13' is actually an average size for this sort of thing. The back side of the neck of the utensil is stamped "Mario Batali" which I don't particularly like. Overall it's great!

This is a nice paddle. I use it for more than rissoto. When cooking anything that might stick to bottom of the pot this paddle allows you to easily scrape the bottom ie soups etc.
