One reason I wanted a silicone turner so I wouldn't add to my collection of plastic cooking utensils that have melted handles when I lean them against the edge of the pan while cooking. Well, this turner has now has a nice melted indentation on the handle. I suppose I should have read the description a little closer as it does mention a rubber handle.



The turner part is fine (and made out of silicone so it won't melt), although I find its edges a little too flexible.

This is probably the best silicone turner out there. It's solid and sturdy and the silicone is not flimsy! I've used it for a year now and it still looks brand new. The only complaint i have with this turner is that handle scratches and tears easily (made of rubber) so if you are going to have it in a drawer, make sure you dont have sharp objects around it. Other than that, its great!

The inferior spatula - not one of humankind's most pressing problems, but for a serious cook like myself, it's a joy to finally have a spatula that meets my criteria:

1.) A spatula head that doesn't separate from the handle, leaving an open, dark, narrow recess that causes me to constantly wonder, "What's growing in there? How am I supposed to keep this clean?"

2.) A heat-resistant spatula I can actually cook with, not reserve exclusively for scraping dregs from bowls.

3.) A dishwasher-worthy spatula whose wooden handle doesn't deteriorate into splinters long before its head is dead.

4.) A spatula whose head is flexible enough (but not too flexible :-) to do thorough scraping in the far reaches of a blender or deep jar.

With these 4 criteria met, I would be satisfied, but Orka All-Silicone Spatulas are beautifully weight-balanced so they feel good in my hand, and are easy to use. They also add a bright touch of color to the container of utensils on my counter. I give these spatulas as gifts and get glowing feedback. "Glowing" and spatula? An unlikely pairing, but this is a exceptional spatula.

You need this spatula. I use mine (I now have 3) practically everyday. It is the perfect spatula for scraping in a food processor, getting the last bit of goo out of a measuring cup, or the last dollop of relish or peanut butter out a jar. My oldest spatula is over 2 years now and still going strong. Sometimes it gets water in the spatula part from the dishwasher -- which is the only reason I've down graded it.

This spatula is comfortable to use. The only negative was that it was smaller than I thought it would be. It's bigger than the narrow jar ones but not as big as a standard sized spatula. The handle is a little short but comfortable to hold. I wasn't sure exactly what I was getting when I ordered it but I kept it because it works.

I typically consider Calphalon to be a dependable maker of kitchen-ware. We own a very expensive stainless steel cookware set by them and didn't think twice about buying the Nylon Turner when we needed a non-slotted turner.



Initially, we were very pleased with the turner. It never melted when we set it on the pan and it was sufficiently stiff enough for our use. After some months, the silver grip that runs nearly the entire length of the handle began to feel loose. It felt like I could just pull the grip right off of the handle. It wasn't a big deal, but it made me question the build quality of Calphalon's kitchen gadgets.



After about a year, we noticed that the nylon tip/edge of the turner began to literally, flake off into our food. I don't know if through normal use, the heat started to break down the nylon, but this was very disconcerting. I wrote to Calphalon Customer Service to see what could be done.



Without going into too much detail, my experience with Calphalon Customer Service was highly disappointing. I was reasonable and set my expectations low. I was fairly certain I wouldn't get warranty support but their lack of response to my inquiries was inadequate. It's amazing how one bad experience like this can sour your entire attitude toward a company you used to think so highly of.



I am not replacing my Calphalon stainless steel pans, but I'm certainly not buying any more Calphalon kitchen gadgets. We replaced the turner with one from OXO, who I have had excellent service experiences with.

Excellent quality, good "look and feel." Adequately stiff, not wimpy. Edges are well formed, crisp and clean (no mold lines, not fuzzy). Correct angle to shaft (many aren't). Good to 400 degrees, the packaging says.

Wow, it looks really cool, and you don't have to scrape the bowl anymore. However, I find I have to stop and scrape the beater! This is because the stubby blades retain material, and the body is so big that stuff accumulates on it. Just this morning while creaming butter with it, I noticed half of my butter got stuck on the inside of the beater with out mixing and wouldn't come off. With all those projections on it, the whole beater retains a lot of material so you have to take the time to scrape it with your fingers if you don't want to waste up to a half cup of your mixture! Very disappointed to find it was made in China. I just don't trust Chinese made products, especially when they come in contact with my food. I went back to the original beater blade that came with my KitchenAid stand mixer.

It works really well for keeping things from sticking to the sides... I hate when flour won't combine without constant scraping and this solves it. My only concern is that it's made out of hard plastic with silicon scrapers I would have preferred metal like the one that comes with the mixer but so far it's stood up well under several months of moderate use.

This beater works exactly as it says. I have even used it when making Amish Friendship bread when it says not to use any metal while mixing. I slide my plastic mixing bowl under my KitchenAid mixer with the new beater blade. I have to hold the bowl but it is easier than beating by hand. When using the regular mixing bowl it really cleans the sides well. I think I will buy one for my daughter, too!
