Award-winning chef-restaurateur Tom Douglas and Amazon.com introduce a line of multi-functional gadgets that will inspire home chefs and build confidence in the kitchen. This four-piece spatula set makes a great gift for a cook just realizing the benefits of silicone. A flexible, heat-resistant, colorfully-tinted material, silicone makes the perfect spatula head--it bends smoothly to scoop batter out of bowls, it can scramble eggs in a nonstick frying pan, and it can baste hot roasts. While the bittersweet-chocolate-colored spatula heads are silicone, the long, smooth handles are hollow stainless steel and sport convenient hanging holes on the ends. The set contains a large spatula, a medium spatula, a small scraper, and a large spoon-shaped spatula. All are dishwasher-safe and heat-resistant to between 428 and 480 degrees F.

Tom's Tips

  • Mixing ingredients is a great way to get kids involved in the kitchen, and the small scraper spatula in this set is a perfect size for little hands.
  • The spoon-shaped spatula is attractive enough to double as a serving spoon for hot or cold dishes at casual dinner parties.

"Wonderful Set - I use it all of the time." 2010-03-04
By M. Vert (Seattle, WA United States)
I received this set as a gift for Christmas. I threw away most of my old spatulas & use these now. The handles are curved & fit in the hand nicely. The varying sizes come in really handy, and they hold up to heat well. I have given them as gifts, too. Buy them... you won't regret it. Happy cooking!

This set is perfect in every way. You have three sizes to choose from plus the scoop spatula (spoonula?) that I can't live without now that I've used one. They have durable metal handles instead of wood, so they won't retain flavors or odors from food. They won't rot or snap in half like wood. The largest spatula is pretty huge, but I used it to mix a large batch of lemon bread batter and it worked great. I just wish these came in more colors, brown really doesn't go with my kitchen. These are as good or better than the Williams-Sonoma spatulas I had been using, and I thought those were the best. Consider that you'd pay about ten bucks each for one of those with the wooden handles and this set is quite a deal.

 "Good Spatula Set" 2010-02-23
By Kat (USA)
This is a very nice spatula set. They have generously long handles with a curve to fit your hand comfortably and a hanging hole. The handles are engineered to fit the hand which is a feature most spats don't have. They feel balanced like a good knife. My only minor complaint is that they are not "grippy" so if the handle is wet, it will be slippery. That is a minor quibble though, because the handle is long enough that it will rarely get wet. It would also be nice to have small rings of silicone on the handle to protect your hand from heat.

If you leave them in a pan while cooking, the handles won't melt - duh. I have ruined many plastic-handled spats by leaving them in the pan; they develop a little melted groove in the handle & then snap/break the next time you scrape out a bowl. The metal handles do get warm but not hot because they are hollow. However, I recommend you experiment with this to make sure the heat isn't too much for your hand - I have asbestos fingers. The metal handles are also nicer than wooden handles which get punky if you put them in the dishwasher like I do. These spats did not have the "peeing" problem (water collecting from washing) that many spats do.

This set has the most useful sizes: (These measurements are approximate.)

Large Head is 4.5" W x 2 -5/8"W Handle Only: 8 -7/8"L length to hanging tip

Spoonula Head: 2.5"W x 3 1/8"W Handle Only: 8- 3/4"L length to hanging tip

Medium Head: 2"W x 3- 3/16"W Handle Only: 8-13/16"L length to hanging tip

Small Scraper Head: 1- 5/8"W x 2- 3/4"W Handle Only: 8-3/4"L length to hanging tip

They are heat resistant so you can use them while cooking on the stove top and they work great for cleaning batter out of a bowl.

They look beautiful; I like the chocolate color & the brushed stainless handle. They would make a nice gift.

 "very nice!" 2010-01-29

"Superior quality, huge deal. Has Spoonula!" 2009-11-11
By GuruJ (Des Moines, WA United States)
I bought these for two reasons, 1. Tom Douglas is our local Top Name Chef and I want to support the home town guy. 2. They looked like the best deal and decent quality.

I was so pleased when I pulled them out. I washed them and went to testing. The first thing I noticed and liked was how sturdy and heavy the they are. Really solid heavy....I hate the two bar super light ones because you can't feel the food when you're working it. The next surprise was the silicone was securely sealed and tight. These don't pull off which I love! Being a deadly bacteria hater I appreciate not having to use a pipe cleaner on my spatulas. The connection from silicone to metal handle was sealed on the outside so no junk will stick in.. easy clean up!

The pictures don't do justice to the size or depth of the set. First thing to know IT HAS A SPOONULA you just can't see it well in the picture. The largest spatula is huge, like Catholic school paddle huge. I have never seen one so big that wasn't a flat scraper. I will likely use the it for flipping large things smaller then a pancake or for folding in cream to chocolate or other folding methods as the size will keep you from smashing the air but still allow a huge amount of folding.

The spoonula is large as well but not quite as big as the paddle. It has a perfectly smooth inside curve and the back side has the handle raise. Because of it's curve it feels like the end is a little stronger, good for scraping a pan while deglazing.

The smallest one is small enough to fit in my mini Cuisinart food processor and tall enough to wipe the whole side clean.

To be honest I was going to get 2 separate pieces from other makers when I came across this set for less then the two solos. The quality for price was ridiculous and much better then big name oxo or the plastic to silicone junk.

I'm glad I trusted Tom Douglas and his name. He restaurants are excellent and so far his cooking line is too! Ganache here I come!
