I bought this before I really started getting into cooking, thinking that it was a good idea to have a spoon rest so the counter doesn't get dirty. But now that I cook a lot, the only thing this thing does is make it so I have one more thing to wash.



The item itself is good quality and easy to clean, so if you want a single spoon rest - I would recommend the item. It's also useful if you're making a single pot meal where you really are only using one utensil - then that ONE utensil can rest here.

Really nice, quality spoon rest with plenty of room for different sized cooking utensils. My only problem with it..and the reason I knocked off a star is..Amazon sent me a damaged one and it's not worth sending back. They really need to practice quality control..I've seen this complaint on many items and seriously wonder if they buy loads of "seconds" to make money...? It's a nice spoon rest however, and worth the money.

This is an excellent item! First I like that it is stainless steel so that if anything gets stuck on it you can just *brillo* is off. The stainless finish makes it very arractive and so much better looking than most kitchy-looking spoon holders. Altho this is more of a utensil holder...its big. Its a great fit for wooden spoons, the heat-resistant spatulas, large spoons..etc. It will even accomodate ladles altho they pretty much rest on it, as opposed to rest in it.

This unit is sturdy and weighty. It doesnt move around or tip when you put on a utensil. I have put it in the dishwasher with no problem.

This would be an excellent item for someone setting up a kitchen, a kitchen themed gift basket, or a kitchen themed housewarming gift.

I bought this spatula based on all the positive reviews here. Later, I found that Cook's Illustrated gave this their *lowest* rating, putting it last among a large number of spatulas. Unfortunately, that's where it belongs.



This is almost useless for actual cooking, although I guess it's ok if all you're doing is flipping a fried egg or something. The material is quite soft, meaning you can't scrape the sides of a bowl. Certainly if you're working with a stiff dough you won't get enough leverage. There's a piece of metal inside meant to give the Switchit some rigidity, but it doesn't extend far enough.



The gimmick of having two ends to work with turns out not to be that useful--flip the spatula over and you've got whatever you were just stirring now running over your hand.

I love this thing! They call it a spatula, which I think of more as something you flip burgers with, but whatever -- I guess I could flip a small burger with it. It's a great tool for stirring and mixing. It's great w/nonstick pans. I use it in prep and on the stove top.



Others have complained that the silicone split where the metal support stops, but I've used mine frequently for over a year and see no sign of wear. I just bought a couple more for stocking stuffers.

None of that is an issue with the Chef'n. Even my expensive Le Crueset silicone spatula (a gift) is made so that you can take off the blade and put it in the dishwasher, and wash the delicate wooden handle by hand. Guess how often I use that.



I've read other reviews that this spatula can snap when mixing stiff dough, so just be aware. It's extremely durable, but not indestructable.

* Flexible blade does indeed slide under things.



* Useful size for eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches.



* Dishwasher-safe-ish.



Bad points:



* Handle is made of a plastic that melts at surprisingly low temperatures--the side of a frying pan even at moderately low heat.



* Handle is riveted to blade quite loosely--there is play when the handle flexes. It feels like something is shaking loose, even though this is functionally irrelevant.



* Blade is cheaply made--it is not smooth, but slightly pitted, at the business end.

I live in a rural area and I couldn't find a decent turner in a store within a hundred miles, literally! All thick enough plastic to challenge a wheelchair from crossing, or silicone discs on handles. This turner is everything it should be - durable but flexible, thin bladed to avoid injuring eggs, big enough for omelettes and burgers, rust-free, and a pure delight. It was a gift for my chef-esque husband and I had to buy several more in two sizes to make him even happier.

I use it for a lot of things from stir fry to pasta. The silicone can take the heat of the hot oil. For me this is really handy spoon that happens to be a spatula, It is especially good for round sided pans because you can scrape off the sauce from the sides and with a hard spoon I couldn't do it. I wish they would make this exact thing in a non slotted version.
