"Does thoroughly mix peanut butter and oil" 2009-10-02
By DosLady (Bend, OR USA)
I purchased the Zyliss Silicone Spreader with the main idea of stirring and spreading peanut butter.

The natural peanut butter in a jar has an inch of oil sitting on top. I used to try to mix this oil reaching a couple inches down into the peanut butter. I used a regular knife or spatula. Or I would just discard the oil and in time the peanut butter would dry out in chunks.

This spreader can be inserted all the way down and is able to stir the peanut and oil completely when the jar is first opened. Takes a couple minutes, but the peanut butter and oil will be thoroughly mixed. The long handle helps with the stirring.

Using the edge of the spreader over bread, even soft fresh bread, does not tear it.

To date, the only color of this item is red. It is slightly flexible and has a hole in the handle to hang.

"Great Mixer for Peanut Butter" 2008-12-31
By Marcia Larkin (San Diego)
I bought this spreader to mix my MaraNatha peanut butter - I like the natural type with the oil on the top and it is very hard to mix. I remove the peanut butter and oil from the jar and mix it all up in a bowl with this spreader and return it to the jar. The peanut butter stays well mixed until I have eaten it all.

"you'll love silicone for cooking, scraping and spreading" 2008-11-15
By George Dennison (Lake Oswego, OR)
This summer I bought several Rubbermaid silicone spatulas & silicone spoon spatulas. I was disappointed they didn't have the half-spatulas, (jar scrapers, spreaders) in silicone. I recently added a variety of silicone spreaders and spatulas to a larger order of other items, (free shipping on all).

I can't say enough about silicone utensils - great for cooking, great for scraping and clean up easily. I soak my silverware before they go into the dishwasher. I added a second large yogurt container of soapy water for the silicone and rubber spatulas, etc.

Unless the food is oily, (mayo) or sticky, (peanut butter), I just rinse with hot water after a short soak.

Each type has it's own specific use, so one of each, at least, two if you can afford it. If you have to pick just one, get a jar scraper. If budget is two, add a spoon spatula.

In the long run, they will pay for themselves: silicone makes it possible to get 99.9% of food from a container. I have some brand-new rubber spatulas, it's hard to get a container or bowl as clean. The silicone glides, the rubber jerks across the surface.

The blade has a sharp edge, (spatula edges are normally blunt), and the blade is rigid 90% of it's length. What I'm concerned about with the Xyliss is the handle is hard plastic and the blade slips on. It's too long to pull off, ( I tried), and the way it's designed, there is a crevice where the end of the handle and the silicone blade meet - seems like a great place to catch gunk. (one piece handle and it would get 5 of 5)

Haven't found the 'perfect' use of this specialized utensil, tried on peanut butter sandwich & it failed. Mayo? mustard? probably better.

 "Awesome Spreader" 2008-06-02
By Phil P (USA)
The Zyliss Silicone Spreader is much better than using a knife to spread jams, peanut butter, cream cheese, mustard, or anything else that you would put onto bread. Your bread won't rip because it is soft and slightly flexible, but it is very firm at teh same time. I also like it because it is wide and you can apply your spread in a couple of seconds. I also have the Zyliss peeler and spatula, but I use this item the most.
