very poor instructions, even for China made junk, holder does not hold good, extra blades dont cut well, all because of poor instructions,

I too bought this item because it looked sturdier and was by a better maker than the really cheap ones, but not nearly as expensive as an all-stainless restaurant-grade slicer.
It worked Fair to OK for a year for me -- with some practice and *very* twitchy thumbscrew settings I could even jullienne hard veggies like carrots and daikon.
Then -- just tonight! I was trying to shred cabbage really fine to make Curtido de Repollo (Central American vinegar marinated cabbage 'cole slaw' with hot pepper puree) -- and the thing exploded. A very sharp 2-sided blade flying through the air in one direction under spring pressure, the stand in the other direction. I'm glad it was the stand that hit me in the stomach instead of the main blade. On post mortem, I found that the sturdy metal stand was held in place under the mandoline merely by 2 holes in the black plastic frame! Both tiny pieces of plastic holding in the legs had cracked and broken out. I found and saved one of them; too bad, I don't see a place to post photos here or I'd post it.
It's not like I was pressing hard -- I was just trying to shred plain old cabbage for pete's sake!
Avoid this cheap plastic junk at all costs. Slice your veggies with a nice big razor-sharp Chinese chef's knife until you can afford to buy a REAL mandoline slicer! I was lucky my Curtido didn't turn red from blood -- "¿Curtido de sángre?" Saving my pennies for the real thing now.

Gave it as a gift and will return to review if it does not perform. I inspected it and it seemed to be of good quality. Storage case for blades a definite plus so you do not have to go searching in "that" drawer and possibly cutting yourself. I would like to see it redesigned to have all the blades and parts snap together for storage in one piece. Nice touch with folding stand....I would recommend this product to others.

I bought this without reading reviews and because it was Oneida. Major disappointment, especially because I am very selective with the number of gadgets that I have in the kitchen. The plastic portions are not well made, very cheap and not even. The removable 3 smaller blades are almost impossible to slide into perfect position. The grip guard slides so badly that you will need all your energy to use this product. Frankly, a sharp knife is a better buy than this. And it is not because I did not read instructions or did not practice - I am quite an expert at kitchen gadgets. My biggest regret is throwing out the box before inspecting the product carefully and not being able to return it. This is comparable to any unbranded cheap mandolines found in the market.

I've always wanted a Mandolin because I enjoy cooking but especially like making a nice presentation on the plate & a Mandolin allows you to have nice percision, identical cuts . Picked this brand because I have other Oneida products which are of good quality. Unfortunately, I hardly ever use it because it is a little cumbersome. It just sits in the box in my cabinet. Perhaps a different brand would have been better.
